The new JTC-Lite feature in BPS free is pretty awesome.

Does using JTC-Lite make the various Brute Force Protection custom codes moot or redundant?

Does it seem reasonable that I could remove those custom codes from the BPS .htaccess file if using JTC-Lite?

Glad you like it.  JTC-Lite is a very simple security concept, but it is 100% effective.  The reason for that is 99% of all hacking and spamming is automated with HackerBots and SpamBots.  Occasionally you will have to deal with a human spammer, but typically a human hacker is never going to personally try to Brute Force login to a site.  We use these additional Bonus Custom Codes on all of our sites:  trackback/pingback protection, server protocol HTTP/1.0 protection, author enumeration protection, JSON bot protection, click jacking protection and MIME sniffing protection, but simply using Login Security and JTC-Lite is enough protection to completely protect your Login page.
