    Hello there,

I have login capture enabled, and lock out time set to 6000 minutes after 3 attempts. Nevertheless, my Simple History plugin always shows me via the dashboard that there are many brute force attempts (way more than 3 at the same time).

I once asked about that here and was told that it should be no cause for concern so I left it there.

I recently changed host and the new host tech guy is much better at comms than the last. He said that he was seeing brute force attacks that were landing 404 pages (not being stopped by plugin). He also said that their managed WordPress plans (which I don’t qualify for as I have a multisite) used the free Wordfence plugin and did not allow brute force to proceed to 404 pages.

He has suggested that I remove Bulletproof to try Wordfence just for comparison’s sake. However, I’d like to know first if Bulletproof has an export-settings feature in case I want to put it back on later.

For that matter, is there anything else I should keep in mind before uninstalling Bulletproof? (To possibly reinstalling later.)

As an aside, does Bulletproof have a 2FA feature? (I haven’t noted it anywhere.)

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, BPS Pro has an export/import settings feature > BPS Pro Setup menu > Setup Wizard > Setup Wizard Export|Import tab page. BPS Pro and Wordfence are compatible with each other and work together. You would just turn off BPS Pro JTC and Login Security features and use Wordfence login features. No need to uninstall BPS.

Not sure what the Simple History plugin is recording. Never fiddled with that plugin.

A 404 error = Page Not Found. If a 404 error occurs the visitor is sent to you default 404 page. A 403 error = Forbidden (blocked). I have no idea why the support person would say a 404 error has anything to do with something being “stopped” because a 404 error simply means that the URL that a visitor tried to access does not exist. Maybe the support person does not know what a 404 error is or maybe he/she was just making stuff up to try and upsell their Managed WordPress hosting.

FYI – Web host techs are not usually very knowledgeable about WordPress or plugins or themes. Their job is to reset hosting passwords, troubleshoot hosting email stuff, troubleshoot general hosting stuff, etc.

BPS Pro does not have a 2FA feature and instead has Login Security and JTC CAPTCHA. I think Wordfence has a 2FA feature.
