I have installed your plug-in on a new wordpress site I am developing but am experiencing 404 errors on all the menu links. The links deliver an error stemming out of the apache rewrite engine. It appears that apache is not processing the .htaccess file instructions to convert friendly urls back to calls to index.php.
Sorry I don’t know much about this, can you offer any advice as I know your plug-in offers awesome protection of the htaccess file
AITpro AdminKeymasterPlease see this Forum Topic: http://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/read-me-first-free/
I think the issue is going to either be that your custom permalink structure is not valid or more likely the cPanel Broken HotLink Protection Tool problem since your Host – Westnet uses cPanel.
Teijo HeistolaMemberI have lost my confidence in BPS as all my menu links and practically all my site is giving 404 error except the Home page.
Instead of considering Pro I am considering to exit this plugin. What can I do to get the site alive? The BPS is version .48.
My site is http://www.toivoetvallu.fi/wp/
Not Found
The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
MandyMemberHi all, my issue was not a BPS issue but rather a server issue. With the new cluster servers it is necessary to syn the htaccess which I did but because I installed this plug-in, it became necessary to re-sync again which I did not realise until I spoke to my hosting providers. Hope your issue is fixed as easily.
BPS by the way seems to be a fantastic plug-in!MandyMemberIssue resolved
AITpro AdminKeymaster@Mandy – Great news! Thanks for confirming all is well for you.
@Teijo Heistola – start troubleshooting by deleting the .htaccess file in your website root folder so that your URL’s will no longer have 404 errors.
There a several things that can cause a 404 error so please read this Forum Topic first: http://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/read-me-first-free/
The most common cause of 404 errors is the cPanel HotLink Protection Tool problem.
Teijo HeistolaMemberThanks for the hints for 404.HotLink Protection tool was ok.Deleted the .htaccess files both in root and wp-admin folder. This did not open the gates. Then clicked the fresh BPS settings. Voilá – stuck menu items opened again. Thanks!
Case closed, but exact reason not revealed. Maybe my tumbling with earlier BPS updates?
AITpro AdminKeymasterI think that the automatic .htaccess file updating is not working in some conditions/some Hosts/etc. So far this issue/problem seems pretty isolated, but there are a few people reporting this so I am trying to gather some clues to see if I can find out why this is.
Which web host do you have?
Please post this information about your website from the BPS System Info tab page.
DNS Name Server: ns25.domaincontrol.com
Server Type: Apache
Operating System: Linux
Server API: cgi-fcgi – Your Host Server is using CGI.Teijo HeistolaMemberHi,
Attached the system info in this installation:
DNS Name Server: ns2.c2-suncomet.com
Server Type: Apache
