Cant find my backed up htaccess files

I backed up the htaccess files, and then realized that I will need to re-enter some code for the WP Super Cache plugin, but when I looked for the backed up files to spot the code that I need to add back to the root htaccess file, I couldn’t find any backed up htaccess files.  Your plugin instructions state:

“Backup files are stored in this folder /wp-content/bps-backup.”

But the folder “bps-backup” does not exist.  Where else might the backed up htaccess files be?
