TerryParticipant
Can yo advise on what prevents the Security log from being zipped and emailed. Getting this error.
https://app.screencast.com/SCmVEptuyE5iS
It zips other files and emails them so not sure why not the security log.
Thanks
Terry
AITpro AdminKeymasterCopy the Security Log contents if you want to keep it. Then click the Delete Log button to delete and create a new blank Security Log file. Let me know if the problem occurs again. Sometimes a large number of logged blocked attacks in a very short time period can fill up the Security Log very quickly and it will exceed the 2 MB max size limit.
TerryParticipantI did as you recommended but here is a different website showing that the security log file is not being zipped, emailed and delete. https://app.screencast.com/TghfdEFAkFjol
This site hasn’t hit the 2 meg limit yet but it still has not been zipped and emailed even though it is approaching the 2 meg size when the warning will be triggered. I verified the limit is set at 500K. Is there any other setting that would affect this.
I did run the wp-cron.php file to see if that would force this file to be zipped and emailed but it didn’t do anything.
AITpro AdminKeymasterAre WP Crons disabled on these websites? You can check that on the BPS System Info page > DISABLE_WP_CRON constant: Standard WP Crons are not disabled on your website.
TerryParticipantThey are disabled as suggested by another plugin creator and ran through the cron in cpanel which runs wp-cron.php
TerryParticipantI did go into wpconfig.php and set wp-cron active again and then ran wp-cron.php but it did not help. Is there a certain time that cron runs for the security log?
AITpro AdminKeymasterBPS Pro works with direct cron jobs from a control panel. The Security Log cron checks the log file once per hour and if it is at or over the max file limit it is zipped and emailed to you or deleted if you chose to just delete it. If your website is being attacked at a rate that exceeds the max file size in a short period of time then the cron will not run in time to do what it does. Sometimes brute force attacks can launch 1,000’s, 10,0000’s, 100,000’s of attacks against a website in short periods of time and they may go on for several days. These are brute force bot attacks. Check the Security Log entry time stamps. If you are seeing several attacks per second then your website is being attacked currently. Nothing to worry about, just a nuisance for a bit.
TerryParticipantThanks for the explanation but I apparently still have an issue because I have the cron running from the cpanel every 30 minutes plus I reactivated the wp-cron in wp-config over 9 hours ago and the security log is 1.9 meg with the settings at 500k so I believe it should have zipped, emailed and deleted by now.
AITpro AdminKeymasterDelete the log file and let me know what happens after a week or so. If the next Security log file zip fails then let me know that.
