    Hi –

I noticed that the File Lock feature is now retired and turned off by default. What permissions should the files be that were previously locked?

Can you please let me know what I need to set as my permissions for the following?

    • root .htaccess
    • wp-config.php
    • WP index.php
    • wp-blog-header.php

GoDaddy is my host, and their default file permission is 644.

    Thank you

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… making file permissions more strict had some positive security benefits.  Those days are long gone.  So the answer is – do not change the default file permissions that your web host assigns to files and folders.  644 permissions for files is fine/safe.  755 permissions for folders is fine/safe.  If you do decide to change the file permissions then use 604 for files.  Do not change 755 folder permissions.
