It sounds like your original root htaccess file contains php/php.ini handler htaccess code that is required by your web host. You can manually restore your original root htaccess file by doing the steps below.
Use FTP or your web host control panel file manager tool.
Go to this folder > /wp-content/bps-backup/master-backups/
Download your original root htaccess file > root.htaccess-{timestamp}
Upload your original root htaccess file to your WordPress root installation folder. Same folder where the wp-config.php file is.
Rename your original root htaccess file to: .htaccess
