I updated my genesis theme today, some files were sent to quarantine so I turned off AutoRestor and restored them now the the site has crashed. I’ve tried running arqdelete.php but it does nothing and have also tried changing file permissions for BPS Pr’s folder.

Spent 30 mins in the forum trying to find info on but haven’t come up with anything which helps. What’s the procedure for recovering a crashed site?

    regards,
    Chris

Important Note: If you have BPS Pro 12.8 or higher versions of BPS Pro installed click this link for quickier and easier steps to fix quarantined files problems: https://forum.ait-pro.com/forums/topic/website-not-loading-after-wordpress-upgrade-or-theme-upgrade-500-error-files-quarantined/. BPS Pro 12.8+ versions automatically deactivate/turn ARQ Off when the /bulletproof-security/ plugin folder is renamed instead of having to use the BPS Pro XTF Form Tools to deactivate/turn ARQ Off.

This is a known issue with the Genesis Theme. The Genesis Theme has dependent theme files.

Newer Method:  Use XTF to deactivate ARQ

BPS Pro Xternal Tools (XTF) are intended to be used when you are unable to login to your website to fix an issue/problem.  You can turn Off BPS Pro features using the XTF Form options without having to be logged into your website.

    1. Upload a new Genesis theme folder and overwrite your existing Genesis theme folder.
    2. Log into your site. Your site should be displaying normally at this point.
    3. Go to AutoRestore and click the wp-content Backup Files button.
    4. Turn on AutoRestore.

Great Ed that works perfectly, thanks. Is it advisable to update Genesis through FTP in the future?

You can update the Genesis Theme from your WordPress Dashboard, but to prevent the possibility of Genesis Theme files being quarantined in the future you can do these extra precautionary steps below.  Normally these steps are not necessary for plugin or theme updates, but 2 people have had this same problem occur with the Genesis Theme update so there is probably some other factor involved in either how the Genesis Theme update was done or something else that caused this problem.  In any case, these steps below will ensure that the problem does not happen in the future.

    1.  Turn Off AutoRestore.
    2.  Update the Genesis Theme.
    3.  Click the wp-content Backup Files button in AutoRestore.
    4.  Turn AutoRestore back On.

Would an “exclude themes” folder do it?

Yes, you can create an AutoRestore exclude rule for the Genesis theme folder if you want.  It would be better to create the AutoRestore folder exclude rule for just the Genesis theme folder then to create an AutoRestore folder exclude rule for the entire /themes folder since the issue/problem is isolated to the Genesis Theme.  See the video tutorial link below for how to create AutoRestore folder exclude rules.
